							| Is there a difference between "which" and "that"?
 |
							| Dear colleagues,
when dealing with relative pronouns, some grammar books don t differentiate the usage of "which" and "that"; others say that we use "which" mainly in non-defining relative clauses, and "that" in the defining ones. However, I have a group who works with the book Attitude 3 and it just doesn t mention any difference between the pronouns neither say they have the same usage.

Do you know if there is a real difference between them?

 Thanks in advance.

							| As far as I know, the difference is a grammatical one. You can t use THAT in non-defining relative clauses: This hotel, which is very cheap, is very well situated too. In this case you can t use THAT. I hope this helps. | 14 Jun 2009

							| Also you may not use which when talk about people, only things. But that is acceptable in both cases. Good luck :) | 14 Jun 2009
