Pay it forward reading comprehension

Teachers have the permission of the publisher to download and distribute copies to their students for use in the classroom. I have seperated the text in 4 parts and included about 10 questions for each. This is a good way to see if the students read the text or only...

Oprah and Elie Wiesel visit Auschwitz
The students answer the questions as they watch the TV show. It may be available on youtube but you can also buy the DVD on oprah.com. I show this to my students BEFORE we start reading NIGHT. It gives them a very good idea of what the Holocaust was like.
Enjoy!

Write for rights: Amnesty International
This is a reading comprehension that I do with my advanced students. They read and answer the questions, then I give them a real case that you can find here http://www.amnesty.ca/writeathon/?page_id=12
After they are done writing, we send out the letters. Its a written production AND it serves a good cause!

It gets better: no more bullying!
This project is part of my homophobia segment. The students watch a few clips on youtube on the itgetsbetterproject channel. They listen to the song recorded by the Broadway stars, they discuss the issues related to bullying and write. Its a pretty complete project. Note that you will need youtube access. Enjoy!
