Contractions in informal speech

Hello

I am designing a cloze activity on an Aussie football song and it has em all the way through it, meaning them.

I m not sure, but is this theoretically classified as a contraction for informal spoken speech or is it something else.  Is there anyone who is an expert in this area?

e.g. In there and at em, don t let em in

Thanks

Cheers

Jayho

I m not an expert, but I googled several linguistic articles, and everybody calls it CONTRACTION (but a colloquial, informal one)... If anyone is a linguist, they ll come and speak up, I m sure...
