Help! Grammar rules

Hi nice teachers! how are you?. I hope you are all fine.I have a doubt, and I do appreciate your help. Can you tell me when we write the + nationality?. e.g: the Spanish, The Japanese etc?. What about The Spaniards?. When do we write Italians, Japanese with no "the"?.  I came across this doubt a couple of days ago. The truth is that I don t doubt the moment I am writing, but this appeared in a book and I the topic was not clear enough. Many thanksfor your help.

Huge hugs.
Silvi.

Hello Silpont :)

When it comes to nationalities -as any other word, we have different categories.

Country: China                 Adjective: Chinese       Noun: A Chinese

It is possible to add the article the When the adjective of the nationality ends in -ese or -ish. We use The + nationality with a plural verb, to refer to all people of that nationality:

The Chinese are very hard-working.
The Spanish often go to sleep in the afternoon.

But not: The americans are hardworking

But: Americans are hardworking....

Hope I helped :)
