Hi everybody,
I m preparing an activity using the song The boy does nothing and I don t know what "do the mumbo" means. Could anyone explain, please?
Thank you.

it s a slang phrase...means: do nothing, do unnecessary things...I met this phrase in a movie and it was like this: "mumbo-jumbo"and meant "nonsense".
Have a look here:

I think  it s "do the mambo" which means" dance the mambo"( a Latin American dance)

Yep, but I think in this case it s reffered  the mambo music. The song says something like "shake it all" "work it out" so it s talking about dancing.
My interpretation: "dance to the sound of the mambo", baila, muevete con el mambo...

Sounds similar to Ray Charles s Do the twist , doesn t it?

Thank you all for replying. The "mambo" explanation seems quite sensible.
I ve also heard "mumbo-jumbo" meaning nonsense but it doesn t fit well here.
Thanks again.
Good night.

I checked the lyrics.  Its definitely referring to the dance, the mambo.

(Who could forget Lou Begas wonderful Mambo No 5)

If you want to illustrate the mambo you could show this nice clip of young people doing the mambo (well, I m guessing its the mambo).  Its a nice clip to show in class of young people enjoying dancing.

Hello,

Dear Isabel, I don t know where you got "do the mumbo" from, but I found the lyrics here and it says "do the mambo" with an A. So that just reinforces what has been said above.

Here is part of the song:

"Do the mambo
Shake it all around now

Everybody on the floor
Let me see you clap your hands

I wanna see you work
I wanna see you move your body in turn
I wanna see you shake your hips and learn"
