Tense problem

I d like to add my support for the first sentence. As has already been pointed out by a few of our colleagues, the time indicator in the second sentence cannot be used with the present perfect.

Here s how I teach it: the PRESENT perfect is a PRESENT tense, and can only be used with PRESENT times, like today, this week, this year, (in my life) etc. That way you can t go wrong.

All the best,

Charles.

Thats what I always teach my students. You cant use past tenses with present perfect together simply. The only reason why I was in doubt was that an English uni teacher has corrected it like so (Tom has burnt his hand while he was doing dinner). Nevermind you assured me.  Thank you guys!
