Thanks in advance!!! | Hi!
Dear Zailda thanks for the link but I still have my doubt:
when you are talking about minutes (of a meeting) should you pronounce it /minits/ or /mainats/? Always in the plural, right?
THanks in advance!!!!! |

Hi! As far as I know both minutes ( time-related and related to the written records of a meeting...) are both pronounced /minits/
May be someone else can add something....

Hello, oh, I think I know what confuses you. The word minute has several meanings and 2 ways of pronunciation. Let s see. MINUTE /minit/ - part of hour, very short time, exact moment, short note, record of meeting (in the meaning record of meeting this word is usually used like this: the minutes. For example - we read throuhg the minutes of the last meeting.) and - MINUTE /mainut/ but the meaning is : extremely small, tiny. E.g. the kitchen on the boat is minute. Another meaning here with this same pronunciations is very detailed - a minute inspection.
So, we can conclude that in the meaning connected with meetings you can use only the pronunciation - /minit/.
