Can anyone give me some quick tips on how to teach sentence stucture to a 18 year old who has been doing it wrong all his life and just cant write a legible sentence. How do I tell him gently that its all wrong and get him to do it the right way without a big drama. Any tips from all you experienced teachers would be great. xx
Thanks..  Yeti xx

I would try giving him a sentence cut up into individual words and see if he can put it into the correct order. Choose a sentence like:

The man bit the dog
and
The dog bit the man

By using two pictures, one with the dog doing the biting and one with the man doing the biting, you can easily demonstrate the absolute importance of word order. He can see that five little words can mean two completely different things.
Hope this helps.
