Do the bold thing

I found this expression and I think it īs important to understand the article I īm reading. What does it mean?

An extract:
"That īs what īs missing from the lives of kids here- order and tradition, Monroe thought. Children need a place they can go to escape chaos. But ritual and tradition alone weren īt the answer. Lorraine īs father, a metalworker, was an example of someone always doing the unexpected, always doing the bold thing."

From an article about Harlem īs Frederick Douglass Intermediate School

It has to do with being courageous.  Bold in this sense means not fearful.  It can also mean daring.
