Patty or burger?
 
Hi, can anybody tell me what is more commonly used, patty or burger?

A patty is when it is either uncooked or just the meat by itself.
But once you put it together, with the bun it is called a burger!

Thanks, Lauren, that �s what I had read. It �s just that watching a tv show, I �ve heard someone ordering a "patty" :S

McDonalds use the word patty in their Big Mac - 100% beef patty.

From what I recall from my recipes I think generally that a patty is the uncooked (meat and/or other ingedients) component - it sort of describes the shape.  Once it is cooked and put together with other ingredients it becomes a burger, like Lauren wrote.   Maybe other cooks can clarify.  However, we often use these words interchangeably.
 
Burger is far more common.
