Hi everyone! hope you are having a great weekend...
anyway, I ve been trying to find activities or games for my English lessons using the IWB but the only webs I have found so far are english or american and their activities are for english as the first language. if I click on modern languages, they obviously dont have english as a second language.
any idea where i can find resources for ESL????
it s a shame we have whiteboards in the classrooms and we are only using them as ordinary boards.
thanks in advance!!
and have a lovely day!! |

You re right, though I also use the whiteboard for powerpoints with an overhead projector. I guess it depends where you work, in what conditions. |

Have you visited the site of Promethean? You have to register (it s free) to access lessons people have uploaded but you might find paperboards for ESL.

hi, download this free software "interwrite workspace" (easy to find on google) I used it last year with an interactive white board and it s fantastic - but before using it in class, you d better work on it a couple of hours, at first it s quite hard if you re not used to it... its recommended by the French "Education Nationale" (Education board), so its quite safe to say its a good software!

Hi!
I don t think there is any free online material, at least not as far as I can witness after searching for ages! The medium is so attractive that I m sure things will be different before long, but in the meantime, this doesn t mean IWB have nothing to offer. With an internet connection, foe example, you can use all sorts of online materials as IWB materials - audio books, online exercises, online educational articles, videos and so on. You may want to check out the following links:
http://www.mingoville.com/en/demo.html http://www.manythings.org/b/e/897 http://chagall-col.spip.ac-rouen.fr/spip.php?rubrique22 http://a4esl.org http://www.english-in-chester.co.uk/stayintouch/ and so on.
Also, my school has taken out inexpensive subscriptions with Mary Glasgow Magazines and clubefl.gr and we often use materials from there.
But where the IWB comes to life for the young ones is with a particular Junior series. I am not sure what the terms of use would be in other countries but in Greece, if you adopt the book for any one junior level, you are given the IWB software for free. I could pm you the name and publisher of the series if you would like to check it out. The publishing company is UK-based so they should be available in your country, too. I know I may sound like a walking ad, but my little students have had so much fun learning English and have actually learned so much with so little effort, that I would recommend this IWB software without the slightest hesitation.
Several of the leading publishers accompany their books with ebooks or IWB software (Longman, Heinemann, Burlington are a few of those). They are not as impressive as Fairyland, but IWB software does make the lesson more attractive and effective. Maybe it would be worth considering adopting series that supply the IWB software f0r their coursebooks.
In short, what I m saying is that IWB are SO useful that if they are available, they shouldn t be used as plain whiteboards, no matter what! I hope this has been of some help although I know it isn t exactly what you were looking for. Best reagrds, Pollyanna
