Regarding the presentation, could you use a continuum going from exactly to about?
Exactly = 100% (referring to the amount)
Nearly = 90-99% (referring to the amount)
About = 80-90% (referring to accuracy)
Over > (referring to the amount)
Since we use measurements in cooking, is there a recipe you can use with the students. I had the students make a fruit salad and it was successsful. Some ingredients had to be measured, others counted, or estimated.
I don t know how old your students are, but if they are not allowed to use a knife to peel the fruit, then you can use dried fruits and small fruits: berries, cherries, grapes, or prepare some fresh fruits and place them in baggies for the children to mix into their salad.
If you have young students, you could read the folktale, Stone Soup, with them and either make a vegetable soup with them, or create a cardboard cooking pot prop and tagboard or paper vegetables to add to the "soup."
I made a large black cauldron prop and the students added their tagboard vegetables to it.
