What´s the meaning???

Do you know the meaning of the following compound word in red?
"...a bird catcher came and stood under the tree, and laid his lime-twigs for the dove..."
Its part of a Aesops fables called "the ant and the dove". Ive looked it up in the dictionary and Ive found the meaning of each word separately but not in a compund and they have no sense to me.
Thank you!!!
