A magician, wizard or a sorceress, enchantress?

Hi dear friends!
May I use all these words speaking about myself /and being a girl :-)
Like this - Were I a magician I would...
THX!

Hi Jull! :)

Except for magician you could use all the suggested words I suppose. A magician is clearly male I think but the other words can be used for females too.

What about the word witch ?? You can use that one as well. ;))

Regarding your conditional sentence I d rather say If I were a sorceress, I would... "Were I" sounds strange to my ears somehow!!

My best wishes for a nice evening and night, topolina

Hi Jull

Wizard is generally used for men.  witch would be better.

Were I a _____  sounds all right to me.  It tends to be used in more poetic situations.  I ve also heard it used in songs.

-With "magician" and "wizard" people tend to automatically think of men, but they are also suitable terms for women.

-Webster s dictionary defines sorceress as "a women that is a sorcerer". The defintion of sorcerer does NOT specify being a man, but I wouldn t use it for women--similar with enchantress.
