Can you do a bit...
My wife never does the gardening. I do it.
I want to brush my teeth before I go to bed. (We don t "do" or "make" our teeth)
Generally, "make" results in a physical result - a product, and "do" is a more general word. I think that in Portuguese, you just have the word "fazer" (I think I remember it correctly) that has both meanings, as does "hacer" in Spanish, so you just have to learn the different uses of "do" and "make", since they must seem to be the same word to you.
Generally, we use "do" with cleaning activities, and with personal styling:
do the laundry
do the dishes
do my hair
do my nails
do my make-up (or put on my make-up)
However, "make the bed" somewhat contradicts that
Then, to confuse everything, we "set the table"
Ah, what a language!
