Help me, please!

Could anybody please tell me if this sentence is correct?
" The boy next to whom I was sitting told me the answer."
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would say " the boy sitting next to me" , it sounds more colloquial, but yes, what you wrote is perfectly fine, although too formal for everyday speaking ...

Dear colleagues,
I m still a bit confused. In the sentence "The boy next to whom I was sitting told me the answer.", next to is a preposition, isn t it?

Yes it is, and you use whom after prepositions, like :
"That s the man with whom I saw her". But again, it s more common to say "that s the man I saw her with".

Remember the old rule:

never use a preposition to end a sentence with !

You can confuse your students with that one...

All the best,

Charles.
