What does this expression  mean ?
One of the other British volunteers, Sam Russel described them as, "just a collection of odds and sods"
I think  it s something like " miscellaneous people", but this doesn t sound right to me.
Could you  say :" The Commune de Paris Batallion was formed by  miscellaneous people".
Thanks in advance.
Have a nice Thursday!

Yes, it s a variety of people and things, but that expression implies they are not important or valuable.

Yes,Alicia is right. Smile It s just a collection/group of very different people.

Sort of like the saying "odd and ends" when you are referring to a group of things that are not quite complete. They tend to be things saved from other things, or leftovers or things picked up here and there.

Example:

A: We need to fix the table.

B: Well, I ve some stuff at home we can use but it s just some odds and ends.

A: Really? Like what?

B: Let s see... I have some old red paint, glue, two clamps and a few nails... but I haven t got a hammer.
