"All of a sudden" or "all of the sudden"

All of a sudden - this is what we use in New Zealand.  Like many others, I have never heard "all of the sudden", so would suggest you don t use this expression.

As for "In a mood" - down here this means you are in a bad temper about something.  It can also be heard "He/She is in a moody" - don t go near a person who is in a moody!  It doesn t need further clarification, and it only refers to someone in a bad mood, not a good mood.  It is a negative description.

"In the mood", is just as Dennis explains - you feel like doing something.  "I am in the mood to listen to music"; "I am in the mood to invite friends around for dinner", "I am in the mood to go out for some excitement" - it s a positive expression, and definitely safe to go near someone who is "in the mood" (although I suppose it would depend on what they are in the mood for!)".

Good luck.  - Judy
