Not all of these words were borrowed directly from Greek; some were borrowed from French who borrowed them from Greek. The important point is that the meanings of these words are what they are because of the original meanings of the Greek roots in them. Those roots are still being used today by doctors and others to create new English words.

My dear friend,
I can tell you hundreds or even thousands of words of Greek origin in Russian but how will you understand them? Do you want me to write their original Greek word or to transliterate them in English?
Ready to help. Just say howHug

I agree with Priorita, there are lots of words in Russian with Greek roots.
Btw, most of the roots mentioned by Apodo are frequent in Russian too...Simply amazing :)

not so amazing if to take into consideration the fact that the Greek science and culture influenced the Europeans in great degree and that all the main medical, historical, philosophical and ... whatever ... terms are taken from Greek and Latin.

There really are too many to list from English - every phobia comes from Greek, for example. I studied Classical Greek as part of a linguistics degree and it is amazing how many English words have Greek roots - we all know about the Latin but the Greek surprised me!

Just some words. For example:
In French: Pdiatre= Pediatrician (in English)
I know the most English words derived from Greek. I need other languages.

Have you seen the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding?  The father says that every word has a Greek root - I think he even manages to explain how kimono comes from Greek!
