height or altitude?

Hi everybody!

Once again I need your help!!!

What would you say? Which one is correct?

"We went to the top floor of the Sears Tower. It was a quite impressing view but I was afraid of the height! "

or                          "... but I was afraid of the altitude. "

Thanks a lot for your help!

Have a nice day :)

Delphine

Hello,

I would say the first sentence (with height), it sounds naturally to me... "altitude" is quite specific (like "above sea level") and I would not say that in this situation. . .

The correct answer is I was afraid of the height.

Altitude is a distance measurement usually from sea level so you can be at a low or high altitute - it needs to be qualified.

It was quite an impressive view, but I was afraid of the height.
It was a very impressive view, but I was afraid of the height.
(not "impressing")

Zuzana,
My sister says that I don t actually like teaching; I just like correcting people. Maybe she s right, but I do love teaching.
