I use FreeCommander as an Explorer programme.
It doesn �t just offer the option for miniature views, but also offers the option for "quick views". That means, that you have the file structure and document on one half of the explorer (screen) and the "quick view" of the actual document on the other. It sometimes takes some time to load, but it �s really great if you don �t want to keep opening document after document when the miniatures don �t show. (It also offers the option to scroll up and down and zoom.)

Apparently this function is also included in the Explorer of the new Windows 7, but I haven �t got that.
