any ideas?

Dear fellow teachers, I was wondering if you could help me...
I need to prepare a project on food, clothes, house (furniture) or countries to do with my students.
Has anyone done something similar? I would be very grateful if you could share your ideas with me.
Thank you in advance!

I seem to recall someone asking a similar question about a project on food and someone on countries not so long ago, so you might want to search forum posts on those topics - I bet you ll find sth interesting.
It would help a lot if you stated the age and knowledge level of your students, so we d know who you need it for. Should you do each project separately or can you do the whole thing together? Because having it all together could be done well with intermediate teenagers (or higher) - having them choose a country and then find out what special food is prepared in that country, if there are any special clothes they wear in certain ceremonies (from sports to traditional...) or any famous designers, typical housing for the country s cities and countryside (semi-detached, villas, cottages, skyscrapers..., even building materials - furniture can be covered as mutual to most countries in the world - items, not materials), as well as basic cultural and geographical details, history, language, art... You might want to check the available ppts on the countries you decide to include in the offer and show it to them if you have a projector (if not, having it printed in a booklet also helps) or even have your sts prepare their own ppts on their countries. They could even act out some famous people from these countries...

Cooking -Tell students they are going to describe in detail how to cook their favourite food. It will be a good idea to split the class into groups. Tell them their dish should be simple. The groups should decide on a dish they all like.

Make a list of useful vocabulary related to food.

Write these questions on the board.

  • What food items are you going to need?
  • What utensils will you be using?
  • How will you prepare the food?
  • What are you going to do first?
  • What will you do next?

Clothes -once the vocabulary is learned you could have the class give examples of what clothing is worn in different countries and what clothes are worn for different seasons.  You could also ask what type of clothing would be worn for a trip to Mexico, a trip to Alaska etc.

House and Furniture you could have the students draw a plan of their house and show all the furniture in it.  You could ask them to describe their house and room and what is in it.

     You could also ask

what a home means to them

         why we have homes

things you can do at home that you cant do elsewhere

         their favourite room at home

         chores they do at home

Hi Veljaca82.
I ve just done a "brunch" at my school with all the students and our comunity including parents. I wanted to do something related with food so I thought in a british breakfast but for several reasons we made a fantastic brunch. The canteen was decorated with lots of pictures and paintings about fruit, vegetables and meals and there were lots of flowers. We worked this content with all the students of our school and the result was very good. Next year we re going to do a 5 o clock tea.
Hope this helps.
Clara
