Intensifiers for adjectives
|
Hello evrybody,
I ve corrected a lot of compositions and I have notice that hardly any of my students use intensifiers with adjectives apart from "very" or "really". The point is that I ve been thinking on giving a lesson on that topic and that it is rather difficult to find a book with either theory or exercises on that topic. Is there any theory to explain on this topic or the use of intensifiers is just a matter of collocation? Do you know any good exercise on this topic? Thanks in advance. |

Hi, the general rule is that you can t use "very" with extreme adjectives. I ll send you a PM with exercises but I m not sure how advanced your students are. Hope it will be helpful!

This may not be exactly what you wanted but it gives an overview of intensifiers and limiters and their use:

Have you checked the contributions dealing with intensifiers yet?

I m in a hurry now cause in half an hour I must be working so I don t have enough time to read your messages in detail. I ll check them in great detail when I finish working but I just want to tell you thanks a million for your help. You re simply the best! I m 28 and I ve just been teaching for 2 years and a half and I hope one day to have a similar knowledge about the language as you do. hugs! |
