"Take a ride" is said to mean "to make a journey by some kind of means of transportation"
For example:
It was a beautiful day, so we took a ride in the car"

There is also "take for a ride" which means to lie to somebody or to take sb to some place in order to kill them.

ex: I found out that my manager has been taking me for a ride = meaning he has been lying to me and stealing my money (for example)
ex: The drug dealer was taken for a ride by his boss = was murdered.
