There is a wardrobe, a sofa, a chest of drawers and a chair.

or

There are a wardrobe, a sofa, a chest of drawers and a chair.

In my opinion it should be - There is (because  every word is singular, but my head is really empty now LOL )

"There is" is the correct one Wink You are right, it s because every single word is singular. It would be "There are" if the following names were in the plural.

Hugs!

You are listing single things - therefore they are singular and you use IS.

As far as I know it is correct to write like this:

There is a wardrobe, a sofa, a chest of drawers and a chair.
There is a wardrobe, sofas, a chest of drawers and chairs.
There are wardrobes, a sofa.....

The most important thing , in this case, is the first word the goes right after "There is".
If the word is in singular then it should be There is,
if it s in plural then There are..
the rest of the words don t matter so much.
