Help with a phrase: "they were forced to stack their drivers"

Hi all, any F1 fans out there who can help with the word "stack"?

It comes from an article on this Sunday s race.

Ferraris weekend was ruined under the safety car as they were forced to stack their drivers.

Best wishes

Well if it s connected with the safety car it ll have something to with all the cars being bunched up together, thus losing any time advantage you had over the cars behind you. I have a feeling it has something to do with going to the pit lane while the safety car is out, but don t quote me on that hehe;)

No problem:)
Webber was lucky indeed, just a testament to the technology they have that drivers can walk away from huge crashes...

Spectacular crash though!!  I m glad he survived after giving us such a show.

I m pretty sure that Adam s explanation about "bunching" the drivers up is correct.
