Are you the eldest?

Are you the eldest?

A student asked me today "how do I specifically ask what position the child is in the family?" I could only think of "Are you the eldest?/youngest?" implying further explainations. May you please input your responses on this? Thank you.

Some may ask "Are you a/the middle child?" which can be used if there are 3 children all together in a family.  (i.e. the second child born is the middle child)

If there are more than 3 you can always say "I am the second born" etc
