Just a slight correction, to help out...

All mother-in-laws are difficult people to get on with  would be better expressed as the following:

"All mothers-in-law are difficult to get along with (or on with)."

Such an interesting topic!

In Spain we say "suegra y dolor cuanto m�s lejos mejor" Mother-in-law mother-in-law so much longer away is better, but the mother-in-law mine was a wonderful person
