Help with saying congratulations in Spanish

Hi everyone

Please can someone tell me some Spanish phrases you can use to congratulate sb on the birth of their baby? Nothing too formal, it s for my BIL

I thought Enhorabuena would be used but I ve googled a bit and found Felicidades....
Can someone explain when you use the two? I always get confused.

Thanks! Gracias!

Hi Colibrita!
I usually say "Enhorabuena", but you can also use "Felicidades".
You can find some phrases here:

http://www.euroresidentes.com/Diversion/Frases_nacimiento.htm

http://www.novakida.es/frases-para-bebes.html

Here you ll find some free cards to send:

Hope  you can find something useful.

Un abrazo.

Ana Isabel

Hi! I would also say Enhorabuena in this case. The difference? ummmm, I use Enhorabuena when talking about specific events (the birth of a child, when you get a diploma...) And Felicidades when talking about anniversaries (birthday, wedding anniversary...) To be honest, I d never thought about it :S

Olga

I guess Enhorabuena is ok, it depends where the person lives, though. In this part of Amrica we don t use it, we just say Felicidades, Felicitaciones o Te felicito .

I agree with Akanah, Enhorabuena is for this type of events and Felicidades is for birthdays. Hope it helps.

Don t you usually say enhorabuena when you have achieved something eg passing an exam, birth of a baby, winning the lottery etc?

Here in America we say "Felicidades" when someone has achieved something and it s their birthday, "En hora buena" is not that common here, but I guess in Spain it is.
