Hi Liz, Im sure youll quickly find your feet. And in a short while youll wonder what the panic was all about.

This is of course from my experience in an ELS classroom where the children know no or very little English.

A big (robust) dice is a fun way to teach many things. I have one which is about 10 inches square. I taped plastic see through pockets onto each surface (to slide flashcards into). You can use that for teaching/revising almost anything. Or at least anything you have flashcards for. The kids love throwing it about.

For kindergarten its flashcards, flashcards and more flashcards, as well as action songs. The more actions the better. The actions also help with fine and gross motor skills development.

Classroom commands, classroom actions, classroom routines.

Most of the flashcards I have, I have printed out colouring in pages, coloured them in and then laminated them.

A few useful sites for flashcards and other activities.

Kindergarten is hard work but very rewarding. Especially when something like this happens; a 2 year old to me, I love you ye ye. (thats what most of them call me) Thank you Alberta, I love you too I replied. After a little consideration, (I could almost see her brain ticking over) she said I love you 5.

Enjoy.

Liz, remember, we have nothing to fear but fear itself! We grow with every challenge!

You ll do well, Liz, because you care. We re here for you. Just remember - lots of songs, movement, pictures and various sounds - they love stories, rhymes and songs... Flashcards, change the scenery (sit down for one activity, dance another, whisper the third, play a game in two lines, etc.) The links everybody gave you are great. There are lots of materials here, as well as googleable (geez, what a word)- just google preschool English, nursary rhymes, fingerplays, etc. Check out Winnie the Witch (any episode you wish) on youtube (both Am and GB versions exist) and you can use it with all your levels and ages (adapt the usega, naturally) - it even has an official site with printable materials.

Sorry, her full name is vivi quir :-) The link is to her materials.

A lot of the black and white materials are perfect for very young kids as they get to colour and cut out, stick and be creative with them. I have used some with great success with the younger students!

Congratulations!

Liz, don t be scared of teaching them. You are going to enjoy it. Kids at that age love action games, songs, chants and colouring activities. They learn the words very easily, but they also forget them very easily. So you have to review the vocabulary every now and then. Try to use flashcards. You can play lots of games with them. For example, you can play a memory game, a find and touch game, guessing game and so on. "Simon says game" is a wonderful game to teach them some rules. They will enjoy it.

Here is a site where you find lots of games: http://www.eslkidstuff.com/flashcardgamesframe.htm

Good luck!Thumbs Up
