no or not

Hi dear collegues

It is the first time that I write, but I used to check this page daily, I think it s the best page I ve ever seen. Ok, my question is when to use NO in a sentence and when to use NOT, for example:

There is no wind, it s calm.

There isn t wind, it s calm.

And what is the reason of using No or Not in a sentence.

I know that you will disipel my doubts, thanks in advance.

hugs

Hi! erika,You re welcome to this community.
the first example is correct, while the second, I think it s false.
We say:there isn t any/much.It depends on wether the noun is countable or uncountable.
I hope this helps

"No" modifies nouns and gerund " There is no wind" is correct
" Not" is used with adjectives, adverbs and quantifiers. "there is not much / any wind"
