Can I use "lesser" as a comparative form?

No, "less" is the comparative form, and "the least" the superlative.

Lesser means smaller, and is most commonly used in the phrase "to a lesser extent".

Interesting question. I had a look in the dictionary - As a comparative adverb it s sometimes used before a participle, for example, a lesser-known writer.

As Bruce says it can be used to mean smaller. In fact it s often used in nature - the lesser spotted woodpecker, apparently there s a lesser anteater.
