Hi dear teachers

I have a big doubt: Can I say "I have 10 tins or cans of beer" or I have to say "I have 10 tin or can of beer". Maybe my question is stupid but I need to know.

Thanks a lot for your answer...Embarrassed

I have 10 cans of beer.
(But while I am not 100% certain I think that you can say tins as well)

In NZ we have a saying "He s a few tinnies short of a 6 pack"

You can buy cans of beer in packs of 6 (and more) and it is a way of saying that the person is a bit weird, strange, has no idea of what they are doing ie: He s not all there....

I would use cans of beer. But I have heard and used "tinnies" as in informal way of saying a can of beer.

"Have we got any tinnies in the fridge?"
"Yep, they re nice and cold!"

After 10 cans of beer, who cares? :}

Normally, I would say 10 cans of beer, but I have some old stick-in-the-mud friends who still insist on calling them tins of beer.

And don t the Aussies also refer to them as tinnies ?

Hi, cans and tins are both countable, so "I have 10 cans (tins) of beer."

I m used to hearing "cans of beer" (I hear them in my sleep).  I ve heard tins as referring to metal boxes as in a tin of cookies (biscuits).

I think I m going to open a can of beer right now....I have a few cans in the fridge which should be cold by now....Just as we thought we would be able to breathe a bit the summer came back with a vengeance. I surely hope it will be the last heat wave of the year...
