A debate or a controversy

Yesterday,I asked for a short play and a friend  suggested many ones, hence I d like to thank her /him extremely for her / his  precious effort .I am really happy to be one modest member among such a considerable community. But,still dear friends  in a need to a contraversy or a debate to be held in the classroom e.g smoking or any suggested topic. My sts are ten years old and this suggested contraversy is similar to A TV programme .Sts discuss a certain subject showing the different aspects of it clearing the advantages and disadvantages of it.This is the idea in brief but frankly I am  comfused  because I have no materials
If you help me ,I ll be the happiest person
If not I thank you so much for wasting your precious time dearest ladies and gentlemen

Hello Adel,
I like this site - there are many conversation topics - http://iteslj.org/questions/
I suppose you are looking for hot topics and making a heated debate
If I were you I would talk about school rules and about the parent-child problems and children rights
Maybe you can ask your students to write a list of THEIR VERY OWN "hot topics" as well...

Homework should be volutary
School should finish before 1 pm
Physical education should be obligatory / voluntary
Religious education should be obligatory / voluntary
Parents mustn t ask their kids not to watch TV
Our films are better than American films and Hollywood films.
Children should be allowed to play computer games any time they like
Smoking should be banned
If the parent smokes, then s/he cant ask the child not to smoke
Children under (15) mustnt be arrested for any crime (shoplifting, car theft...)
Children at the age of 16 should be allowed to drive a car
Girl shouldnt spend too much time taking care of her baby sister/brother, it is the work for the parent, not for the little girl...
How would you help the brother-sister relationship? What can make them good friends?
The bus should be free for all children - students of primary /secondary school
All children should have a personal computer / laptop with the access to internet
What is the most important thing in your life? Why?
Who is  the most important person in your life? Why?
What was the most important event in yoru life? Why?
We should start learning English in kindergarten.
All students must learn 2 or 3 foreign languages. Do you agre?
There number of English lessons should be doubled.
Which is the best school in the world?
Do you think your school is a good one? Why?
Do you think teachers are paid enough?
Do you think your school teachers give you too much work?
Is it easier to be a child or an adult?
How can you improve your classes / classroom?
Does it take too long to get a degree?
The good school guarantees a good job.
People without a college education get bad jobs. Do you agree?
How much is too much homework? How should the homework load be managed?
Parents mustnt select the school, the children should do it. Do you agree?
All schools should be free. No tuition paid. Do you agree?
Private schools are better than free public schools. Do you agree?
Practical skills are more important than education. Do you agree?
Studying abroad is a waste of time and money.
What kind of world do you think this would be if people never went to school?
What punishment is for cheating? Is the punishment effective?
Which things are not important for you but very important for your teacher?
Should the school uniforms be obligatory / voluntary?

and maybe some questions on comparison - compare your timetable and a timetable of an English student - which helps the student to learn more?
Compare the weather of your country and England - which is better
...
There is a beautiful BOARDGAME by Pinky for building the self-esteem and expressing opinions. It should be suitable for your students too.

Hi Adel

There is some good stuff on debating for young students here on this site.  This is one example  http://www.eslprintables.com/printable.asp?id=424788#thetop

There are a lot of debating resources (19 pages) so it s best if you go through them yourself and see what s best for your situation.  Just click here to start your search or here for powerpoints.  I m sure that you will find something suitable.

Cheers
