In the 70 �s & 80 �s

It was a "Wog Box" rather than "boombox" became the common term in the United Kingdom      (especially among the black community in London).

Wog is considered a VERY derogatory word for European immigrants here. It was common in the 1950s and 1960s, but rarely heard now. I�ve never heard wog box.
 
Tape deck / tape recorder refers to the very old players that had reels of magnetic tape - before cassettes.
 
I �d call it a CD player.
 
In shops they are called: Portable CD/Radio/Stereo/Cassette 
(depending on the features they have)
