How do you read the year 2010?
|
Hello dear all, I have a question. How do you read the year 2010 and the following ones? Is it correct to say "twenty - ten", or should I say "two thousand and ten"? Thanks for your answers Hugs from Spain

Hi dear Silvia, Of course you are right because you have two possibilities to read the year 2010 :
- two thousand and ten
- twenty ten
The both are correct but I think the most common is - two thousand and ten.

That s what I thought. But how do natives prefer to say that? Is there really no difference? No difference between British and Americans?

Ahh, the debate rages on!
By default, both pronunciations (two thousand and ten/twenty ten) are indeed correct. Since no correct form has been established yet. Which begs the question Who is responsible for maintaining the English language?
I say, go with your gut! I m going to pronounce it two thousand and ten.
I came across this interesting article that you might find useful: http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/how-do-you-pronounce-2010.aspx |

Thank you very much for your answers. They were really helpful. And since there is no SINGLE correct way of saying that I ll stick to two thousand and ten.

I usually say "two thousand-ten", but the others are also correct (and probably MORE correct).
