Dress or wear?

Hello there,

I m marking tests and I was wondering:

                                  You should dress appropriately
                                                       or
                                  You should wear appropriately?

Are both acceptable or wear must be followed by an object (for ex. You should wear decent clothes")?

Thanks a lot,
Chiara

Customer,

I think I d go for the first one for the reasons you mentioned.

Dress.

"You should wear appropriately" doesn t make any sense.

You should dress appropriately. You dress yourself. You wear clothes.

The first one is correct - the second one can only be used if you write
Wear appropriate clothing or dress appropriately.
