There ´s also a lovely selection of Scots and Northern English names for types of streets like ´gate ´ (Gallowgate, Trongate etc), ´vennel ´, ´close ´ and my favourite, ´pend ´ (I used to live in a village with two alleyways called the ´wee pend ´ and the ´big pend ´/ ´micklepend ´).

I also have a soft spot for the relatively common street name, ´Rotten Row ´ (you can find them all over the UK).
