Writing. I need a synonym.

Hi!! I need a synonym for "friends" but meaning "the people you go out with"
It should be a quite formal word because I m going to use it in an essay

Hi,

I suppose "comrade" is also correct and it means the same as "companion" the only things is that comrade comes originally from the french word "camarade". I prefer that you use "companion" since "comrade" it was first used in military.

Dear Carinita,
"Associate"; "Colleague"; "Companion".

I hope that this helps.
