I �m looking for a poem (or five) for my ESL students to memorize that is quintessentially English/American. My students are all adults, but they range from beginner to intermediate.
When I was younger, I started to learn Gaelic, but have since forgotten most of it. However, all the poems that I was made to learn, I can still recite...and remember what they mean. I �m looking for some simple poems that all Americans know by heart. An example: Roses are red...

How about some of Roald Dahl �s limericks?
I can still remember the words to "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" in German, even though I only studied it for one year, so maybe you could try some simple songs, too.
