Help! I īm going to be evaluated by my superior.

In my country this process of evaluating teachers is new and unfair. I īve been teaching for a lot of years and now I īll have 2 lessons observed by my superior. Can you give me ideas and materials about the theme I īm going to be teaching which is "The world of work" for intermediate students. I would appreciate if someone had innovative things to help me, like material for the interactive board. Many thanks.

Hi espamol!

Maybe these pages can give you some ideas or you can use the pics to prepare some introduction to the topic or some ppt to work on.

Hi,
Today I will be evaluated by our "high inquisitor" - their real title is "Inspecteur/Inspectrice" but I like Harry Potter and my "inspectrice" looks a little bit like Umbridge - so I know how you feel... good luck!

I would do jobs and workplaces or equipment, using flashcards, and ask the ss to take cards and make sentences orally - a miner works in a pit, a plumber mends pipes, a laywer works in a court, a forklift truck driver works in a warehouse.
I would do get a job ad, holiday rep is a good one ( cutting edge upper intermediate), discuss what the job entails, is it a good job, qualifications and qualities necessary, write a CV,  you could fit in a listening, someome talking about jobs, ( cutting edge intermediate has 3 listenings)
Do a role play of a job interview and finish with a mime game revising the sentences from part one.

Hello, dear Espamol. I don īt think you have to be stressed by this visit to your classroom. Here in Mexico, or at least in all the schools I have worked at, regular supervision visits to teachers are a common practice, and believe it or not, they have a positive objective, not just make a teacher īs life miserable.
I have been on both sides of the situation, as a teacher being supervised by my superior, and I myself have done these supervision visits to my teachers, as in one school, I am a teacher, and in another I am the coordinator.
Here īs my point of view. Sometimes as teachers, we think we are doing our job right, and that everything is fine. But hasn īt it happened that sometimes you work very hard and simply nothing comes out right, your class is absolutely horrible, the kids simply don īt understand, they don īt pay attention to you, you can īt seem to transmit what you want to them? (I īm not saying this happens always, but I think we all have had such a day!)
At times, an outsider (supervisor) who is observing your class, can detect "something" that is not quite right, and help making suggestions, giving you tips, techniques, etc.
When we are teaching, we cannot observe ourselves, and sometimes cannot detect when something is not done correctly or could be done in a different manner.
My suggestion to you is simply do your job in your usual way, be yourself. Don īt appear tense, or stressed because that will cause a bad impression on your supervisor. She/He will think that this is how you behave always. So just be yourself and, pick a topic that your students have mastered, and have fun with your kids. Look at the good side: you KNOW you will have this visit, and it won īt be a surprise visit just suddenly!
