what I tell my pupils is this
"my hair" "my furniture" etc... are SINGULAR because you think about the whole group and not the "pieces" in this group...
so
my hair is dirty - I �ve got a few grey hairs...
my furniture is from IKEA - I bought those 2 pieces of furniture in IKEA
