The student is the subject, the doer of the action expressed by the verb. |

If I understood the question, what you want to know is if your question is alright to ask your students. I would write: What part of speech is the underlined word? |

Yes you understood me.
mmm
What part of speech is the underlined word?
I think this question is to ask about noun, verb, adverb & adjective not subject , verb & object. |

Dear Pretty,
I am inclined to think that Ed has given you your answer, with "Parts of Speech".
"Oxford Dictionary of English Grammar": Part of Speech, (Word Class or Form Class).
Generally recognised are nouns; verbs; pronouns; adverbs; adjectives; conjunctions; prepositions; and interjections. Other categories are articles; and determiners.
Like Ed, I would also ask: "What Part of Speech is the underlined word?"
I hope that this has helped you.
