Register formal/informal linkers/connectors

Could somebody please provide a list with linkers or connectors in a scale of register (formal - informal)?
My students tend to use them  without paying attention to this and it s starting to drive me crazy!
Thanks! Smile

I m not sure I ve actually seen a list of linking words or phrases organised in such a way. Nevertheless it s a very interesting question. I m curious to see what our fellow teachers come up with.

Could you give some examples, Ivan?

Are you referring to connectors like insofar as v as far as , for example?

Well, I m talking about the use of some "informal" ones such as SO, BESIDES, ANYWAY, etc.
Would it be aceptable to use them in a formal letter, for intance? or maybe I am overcorrecting my students essays? I m confused. After reading so many mistakes, one starts to doubt everything!
