Empanadas are "meat or fish pies" and milanesas, I tell my students are "breaded ... chicken, pork, etc" or whichever meat is being fried up in bread crumbs.

In an international menu a milanesa is usually translated with the german word "shnitzel", also in countries like UK, the USA and Australia.

I think that milanesa is more specifically Wiener Schnitzel (simply breaded and sauteed)

Schnitzel is German for cutlet, which I think is chuleta in Spanish.

I could be totally wrong about all of this, except the German part.
