Teaching English through songs

Hello. I am working on a project How to improve listening and speaking skills through songs and I need your help, please.

Songs can be a useful tool when teaching ESL or EFL. Please, tell me about your experience using songs in your classroom, web sites you use, books, teaching activities, techniques and methods, etc.  I will appreciate all your ideas, comments and suggestions.

Can you give me names of books based on methodologies or techniques to teach English through songs, please.

Thank you.

God bless you with His peace and joy at Easter.

I would recommend Betty Azar song teaching activities.

If you need her lessons I can send them over to you, but I haven t tried them in the classroom. The students were more academically oriented and they needed just grammar and writing. So, it s rather a specific activity.

And there re many beautiful song lessons on this website, like this, for example:

Gapfill with popular songs at beginner, intermediate and advanced level. The song stops until you get it right and then rewinds a bit to make sure you don t miss out on anything.

It all depends on the age group, but I have had quite some success with the following technique:

 1. take a song that you know is suitable (vocabulary/grammar/context) for your students. So no "Cream" by Prince if they are younger than 18 :)

2. copy the lyrics and leave holes whenever there is a difficult word or an interesting phrase.

3. hand out the partial lyrics and ask your students to listen to the song (once or twice). The third time they can then write the missing words.

4. Compare and correct together with your students.

I advice people to teaching English Songs,Old Songs & Video with lyrics Download learning English Songs from.. English Songs , English HD Video Songs Download , New Songs 2011 , Free English mp3 Songs , English Old Songs, New English Love Songs 2011.
