Aren īt I?

Dear teachers, please help with the correct variant of the tag question, when we use "am" - I am a good pupil, aren īt I or am I not? Such sentences appear not very often, but sometimes they do. I īm a young teacher and I need to use this form correctly. Thank you for your attention.

David is right.
It is gramatically correct to say "I am a good student, am I not?", but it is extremely formal.

This is a special case in question tags and this is how it īs formed:

I am right, aren īt I?

I am pale, aren īt I?

Yes that īs right Bruce, am I not is the formal version that we sometimes read in Classic British literature.  Also, some people use this formal version to make a point, to emphasise something.

Aren īt I is the everyday version that most people use these days.
