pronunciation???

hello!
I need your help.
I was reading and I was startled at this sentence:
"Philippe? Don t you mean Philip? He sure didn t seem French to me."
I m sure here - in France - we wouldn t pronounce these 2 first names differently...
but do you???
thanks!

In France, we wouldn t, but in England they would!
Philippe would be pronounced like the girl s name: "Philippa"
Edit: Yes Anita and Johanne youre right (fi:li:p@) I dont know how to do the reversed "e" we use in phonetics!!LOL

Perhaps the first one refers to /fI li:p/ and the second one to / fIlIp/ (sorry, don t know how to use pronunciation symboly here)

Yes, those names are pronounced differently :)

Phillip sounds like fill-lip (not leep like in Philippe)

I agree with Anitarobi, French is my mother tongue and the slight difference is only in pronunciation of the vowels :
Philip as opposed to Pheeleep (the French way).

Hello,

Philip /fɪlɪp/

Philippa / fɪɪpə/

Philippe / fɪ liːp/ - Fr (fi lip)

BTW, @Mariethe House to make the inverted e (schwa) and the different IPA symbols I use this
