What do we call the leave an employee requests to study at university? Is it called sabbatical leave? Please,  I need a sample letter of request on this kind of leave

A common term used is: Educational Leave With (or without) Pay
 
A sabbatical is a "time out" from work to accomplish something--most often done by teachers who go on sabbatical to write a book, travel the world, etc..
 
Sabbatical tends to be for achieving more personal (self actualization) goals.
