For the second question: we use "or" because using "and" would mean that you don �t like reading poetry while you are playing chess. "Or" makes it clear that you mean two activities.

"Getting in shape" means exercising (and dieting, to a lesser extent) in order to look better. Your shape is more attractive when your muscles are toned than when your whole body is flabby. This may be less important to Saudi women; I don �t know.
